A STYLISH STATEMENT

Starting tonight up until the ball drops in Times Square, I’ll bet there are a handful of holiday parties on your schedule. Other then juggling your glamorous social life, your next dilemma…what to wear! Assuming you chose the perfect LBD over that cheesy snowman sweater in the back of the closet, your look still needs that extra something to show how bold and beautiful you really are. I say simplify your typical jewelry pieces (studs & a dainty necklace) and add the extra punch with a fabulous cocktail ring—how apropos. Rock your sparkler on your middle or index finger, and I promise every time you raise that flute of Veuve your fellow partygoers will stop and stare. I love these statement gems by Kenneth Jay Lane. They are perfect for the season and won’t break the bank!

CHANEL: Luxe Lacquer

For the summer opening of their Robertson Boulevard flagship Chanel created a quartet (exclusive-to-store) nail color collection, stamping neon lacquer all the rage. For fall they added some warm glitz with both sparkly and opaque gold tones. So what has this luxe label conjured up for these winter months? The Chanel Moscow Collection limited-edition nail colors and I have to have them! The Russian Night’s collection (created exclusively for their December Paris-Moscow pre-fall ‘09 show) consists of 3 lust-worthy hues. They are all black based with a hit of either red, gold, or blue shimmer- so if you still are wearing black polish it’s time to toss it! The dark nostalgia of these colors will create a surge for sultry holiday mani/pedi’s. So go ahead and channel your inner Czarina with the power of polish!

Influence

A recent addition to my collection of coffee table books is Influence, the new compilation of interviews from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. These twins seem to have had business savvy characteristics in their blood since birth and this next accomplishment they can add to that lengthy tally. This near 300 page book features 20 interviews (some together, some separate) with an array of influential icons, some of which they have known for years and others they were meeting for the first time. I loved their choice of individuals and thought it was a great representation of art, fashion and lifestyle. My personal favorite was Diane Von Furstenberg a woman I myself admire. Another great caption was with writer Bob Colacello, where MK couldn’t get enough about the days of partying in the factory with Andy Warhol (possibly why she is always spotted at swanky joints such as the Beatrice Inn.) All-in-all bravo to the Olsen’s! What a fabulous glimpse into some of the most creative and influential minds!

Finally, My J.Crew Ponte Pants

The funny looking Jodhpur pant is all over this year’s runway and leggings have become a bit too …well, blah. At last, the perfect in-between that has it all, the J.Crew Jersey-knit (Ponte) pant. Then in good fashion, Vogue features this sleek black ankle pant and there it appears-- the dreaded waiting list. I hopped online first thing in September (ordering 2 sizes to make sure at least 1 fit) and finally on the last day of November they arrived. It was well worth the wait they are everything I wanted them to be: slim, midweight, yoke details on the inside of the legs, and the perfect gold exposed-zipper up the back. They look amazing day or night, with a patent flat or a 4-inch pump. I wore mine out on the town with a hammered satin top, over-sized jewels, and killer heels. Their ease and versatility dub them this season’s must have staple!

Last Night's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

At 10pm (East Coast time that is) last night, I along with millions of others ogled over the svelte figures cascading the catwalk of the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on CBS. So after an hour of amazement, the next best thing was my sudden burst of motivation to exercise. The cold weather makes me lazy and I’ll admit it I’ve been sans gym for quite a bit, but I guess all I needed were those lingerie donning beauties to push me out of my slump. So starting today I’m getting back in the swing of healthy eating and shaping up. To give me that extra push, Levi is coming into the office today for a session. I’ll never be an Adriana or Heidi but after working up a good sweat I do feel great!

Bright Nails!

Candace and I are loving the bright nail polish trend this season. I just picked up 4 new colors from the OPI Brights Collection. Right now I'm wearing "atomic orange" and Candace is wearing "need sunglasses?", the shades are so fun and the perfect punch of color to get the summer season going! -Erica

spring

As the saying goes 'No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.' And with the warmer weather and sunfilled days, I'm planning to take advantage of what NYC has to offer. There's the Cherry Blossom festival, games at Yankee Stadium, eating at the yummy Shake Shack, and the Tribeca Film Festival all going on this spring. Enjoy! -Heather R

spring jacket

I’m loving the recent change in weather but I’m not prepared for spring at all! My biggest problem right now is finding a spring jacket. I love the look of a classic trench but I want something a little more exciting – maybe in a vibrant color like red or green. Well I haven’t found the perfect one yet so for now the hunt continues! -Maria

itunes essentials

I've been buying a lot of music from itunes lately to update my ipod and I discovered something new, "i tunes essentials"! Basically itunes created mixes of songs from all different years and genres. Some of my favorites are "60's Rock", "Alternative Hip Hop", Total Workout" (perfect for workout sessions with Levi)! -Erica

Spring Shopping!

Yesterday morning was no nice and sunny here in NYC that it made me excited for spring! That got me thinking about my spring wardrobe. I love all the bold colors for spring, especially the bright yellows and electric blues. I’ve been tagging so many pages in my huge spring magazines of looks that I like. Last night, I was perusing through my Bloomingdale’s catalog and there was a Tory Burch dress I loved, which then led me to browse Bloomingdale’s website. I found this fun Marc by Marc Jacobs dress. I’m obsessed and need it! -Candace

girl scout cookies!

Since I am such a great aunt (and I have a secret obsession for tagalongs) I ordered several boxes of Girl Scout Cookies! I ordered some for home and work – samoas for Rich (his favorite), tagalongs for me of course and an assortment of others for my family…and maybe the tartelettes if they actually survive more then 2 days in my house! Heather R also ordered some from her relatives so we should be on cookie overload soon...yum! -Maria

Italy

So, remember a couple of months ago I casually mentioned that maybe I would book a trip to Italy that day? Well I did, and now it’s finally HERE, and Phil and I are leaving tonight for 10 days in Venice & Florence! We’ll be in Venice for Valentine’s Day, which is like a double treat. I am beyond excited to show him around Florence and basically eat everything that crosses my path. The timing couldn’t be better…the weather is just starting to get pretty blah and the winter doldrums have officially set in, so I really can’t wait to go someplace that inspires me and get reinvigorated. And when we get home, hopefully spring will be (sort of) on the horizon. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! -Alexis

NYC Concert

I was just reading the line up for the Coachella music festival in Indio, California this year, and the article mentioned that the same promoters are launching a similar music event on the east coast, at Liberty State park in New Jersey. The festival won't be quite the same as Coechella where most concert goers camp out in the desert, instead trains and ferries will shuttle people in for the 3 day event along the waterside with the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan as a beautiful back drop. Major headliners like Radiohead are expected to be announced. I can't wait, sounds like a pretty cool event!

Dinosaur BBQ

I’m really excited for a long, relaxing, fun weekend! Tomorrow night a bunch of us are going to Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. The original restaurant is in Syracuse, NY and it’s one of our favorites. Oh, it reminds me of the good ole college days! The food is delicious and there’s such a cool, country vibe! I highly recommend it to those BBQ fans out there… -Candace

Charmed & Dangerous

For Christmas my mom got me an awesome necklace from Charmed & Dangerous. They are actually mother & daughter jewlery designers and are from Maureen's hometown of New City, NY! The designs are vintage inspired and little funky, which I just love, plus the prices are so reasonable. I haven't taken my necklace off since Christmas and I'm still getting complimented on it everyday! Check them out here: http://www.charmedanddangerous.net/

Restaurant Week!

For the past week I've been on a mission to get as many reservations as possible during 2008's Restaurant Week - it's the best time to try new places and visit some favorites. I think Rich may be getting a bit overwhelmed with my plan though since I'm pretty much booking up our entire week! -Maria

PB Candles

I'm obsessed with these new candles from Pottery Barn - the colors are beautiful (this pictures doesn't even do them justice) but the best part is the smell - very fresh and clean - I wish I could cover my apartment with them! But that would be a tad much - hahaha - Heather H

Dress for Sucess

This year I have decided to commit a portion of my extra time to helping those in need. I am currently looking into different organizations and charities that I can work with in the Tri-State area. One cause that I am familiar with from the past is Dress For Success. This organization helps disadvantaged women gain economic independence by preparing them for reentry into the workforce by providing work attire and career development skills.

Wednesday with Maurey!

Happy New Year everyone! I’m very excited because today I’m getting a visit from our fabulous board member (and my friend) Maurey, who I haven’t seen in almost 3 years. She’s going to stop by tarte HQ for a visit with everyone and then we get to have a nice catch-up dinner. Of course, it’ll be 16 degrees tonight, but I’m excited nonetheless. We’re both eagerly awaiting the day tarte expands to London, so I can visit her for a change. (Plus, I never pass up the opportunity to be in London!) -Alexis
